The City of Calgary is situated within the foothills of the spectacular Rocky Mountains and is the true Home of Western Hospitality.  Calgary continues to focus growth on the International stage and hosts many major international events, including the home-grown and world famous Calgary Exhibition & Stampede! Calgary is served by Canada's fastest expanding International airport, which also is a designated backup runway for NASA’s Space Shuttle program.  Calgary is approx an hour’s drive from Banff National Park, the gateway to many Rocky Mountain adventures. Kananaskis Country, Canmore, Banff and Jasper offer year round activities -suitable for everyone.  Stats Canada reports Alberta enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year! So even those coldest winter days are immensely warmed under the vast blue sky, while gazing along the majestic back drop of Alberta’s Rockies.

Region 3 visitors also have wonderful access to numerous other local attractions, including; Fort Calgary (built in 1875), the ‘Cowboy Trail’, dinosaur adventures at the renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller, the Calgary Tower, the Glenbow Museum, the Calgary Peace Bridge, the Calgary Zoo, the TELUS Spark Science Museum, Heritage Park, and the list goes on!  Calgary hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics and today you can visit Canada Olympic Park, boasting a World Class bobsled and the ski jump.  The brave or adventurous can even take summer rides on ‘The Death Slide’ from the 90 metre mark on the ski jump. If sports are your passion, there’s also plenty of league games or golf courses to take in. Canadian Hockey or Football is no stranger to Calgary either. Home of the NHL ‘Flames’ and the CFL ‘Stampeders’ will allow you to take in the action and excitement at the Saddledome or McMahon Stadium. With an eye for architecture, Calgary has many wonderful buildings and structures, old and new, to see.  For example, the Saddledome was built for the 1988 Winter Olympics in the shape of a horse saddle.

So when you have a hankering to come on over for a visit to the Canadian Rockies, Calgary is the ideal starting point, while keeping in mind Region 3 IPA member’s Western Hospitality is unprecedented! We will gladly assist in helping make your Region 3 visit and stay pleasant and very memorable.  Many Region 3 members have called these areas home for over 50 years, making their insights and advice ‘spot on’ and very valuable. Anyone interested in traveling to, or just visiting while passing through, please contact us through our Travel Secretary, who will be happy to assist and answer any of your questions. In Friendship!
